Crowns, Bridges and Veneers

At Compass Dental in Campbell River, we often hear this question: what is the difference between a crowns, bridges and veneers? We want to make it easy for our patients to understand the differences between these three terms, so we’ve created this simple guide to help.

Crowns, also known as caps, are artificial tooth-tops made of gold and porcelain, and are used to strengthen teeth that have been weakened by decay or breakage. They may also be implemented following a root canal. Crowns are custom made and look just like you natural teeth.

● A bridge is a series of 3 or more crowns, attached to one another, and used to replace one or more missing teeth. It is considered permanent and cannot be removed. There are a variety of different bridges available, depending on your oral health needs, and when properly cared for, a bridge can last for many years.

Veneers are tooth-shaped sheets of translucent porcelain that are applied to front teeth to improve the colour, shape and strength of teeth. Veneers are great options for patients with chipped, cracked or stained teeth. Applying veneers is much less intrusive than crown or bridgework.

The Compass Dental team is experienced with all three of these procedures, and will determine which option is ideal for our patients when they visit our Campbell River clinic. We also provide ongoing support and oral health maintenance for our patients to ensure that their crowns, bridges and veneers last as long as possible.
